Director Responsibilities: Notifying changes

As a director, you’re legally responsible for running the company and making sure information is submitted to the relevant authority on time, such as annual confirmation statements and accounts, even if they’re dormant.

Companies House

You must also tell Companies House within 14 days if you make changes to:

  • your company’s registered office
  • directors or their personal details, like their address
  • ‘people with significant control’ (PSC) details, like their address
  • company secretaries (appointing a new one or ending an existing one’s appointment)
  • allotment of shares – within 1 month
  • registration of charges (mortgage)

You must tell Companies House within 1 month if you issue more shares in your company.

To notify Companies House you must use each of the relevant forms.

Note: Often with just 1 change of address a sole director may need to submit 3 different forms.

You must tell HMRC if:

You can update your details within your online HMRC Government Gateway account or by calling them.

Note: You may need to log in to several separate Government Gateway accounts or speak with several departments over the phone to update your details for each service (VAT, Self Assessment, Corporation Tax, etc).

Your Accountant

Please always let us know of any changes so we may also update our records and offer advice on what other actions you may need to take.

Alternatively, get in touch and we’ll be happy to handle all of the paperwork for you at both Companies House and HMRC.

MATCH is working hard to keep on top of all the latest news and government support so, as always, feel free to get in touch if you have any queries and we’ll be happy to help.
